Why Are Some Ingredients Duplicated on the Ingredient List?Updated 3 years ago
Products are composed of raw materials. Each raw material has an INCI name which indicates all of the ingredients that make up that particular material. For example, we use aloe Vera juice. Aloe Vera juice isn’t just aloe vera juice. It is made up of several ingredients which includes phenoxyethanol as a preservative. We use a separate preservative system as a material which again consists of several ingredients that make up that preservative. One of the ingredients is phenoyxethanol. Another example is the Bamboo extract which, in addition to bamboo extract, is made up of a preservative and glycerin. We also use glycerin as a standalone ingredient in the Gelly and that is indicated on the ingredient list.
To make our ingredient list less confusing for the consumer, we could just enter aloe Vera juice as ”Aloe Vera juice“ or Bamboo extract as “Bamboo extract” However, that wouldn’t be transparent in indicating: 1) - the full INCI name of the material used and 2) - those ingredients that actually make up the raw material of which there are several.
