Flaking with the GellyUpdated 3 years ago
There is no ONE SIZE FITS ALL APPROACH to applying styling products including the Gelly to the hair and achieving definition. When it comes to defining curls there is nuance to how to apply styling product. The process is highly dependent on several factors which include your curl pattern, your porosity, your strand thickness and your density.
Flaking can occur for various reasons and depends on numerous factors including hair texture and porosity, amount of product used, type of leave in used underneath, amount of water used, etc.
Here a few factors to consider when assessing flaking with the Gelly:
- What product did you use undeath the Gelly? Did you apply creams and oils?
- What type of style did you do - wash n' go or twist out?
- Did the product dry into the hair completely or was it wet when you applied the Gelly?
- Did you apply the Gelly to wet hair, damp or dry hair?
- How did you apply the Gelly? Did you smooth it through the hair and then rake it through to define the curls?
- Was the Gelly evenly distributed throughout the section of the hair before drying?
- Did you remove excess Gelly from the hair before it dried?
- When did the flaking occur (ie. right after drying, the next day, etc.)
- How do you refresh your hair daily?
Because these questions come up frequently, we did a very detailed webinar on how to properly use the Gelly for various hair types and textures called Wash n' Go Like a Pro. It is a lengthy webinar; however if you have the time to watch it there is a ton of information in it to troubleshoot issues you may be having.
